Thanks to everyone who stopped by our table at the Baby Fair. For those who couldn’t make it, the Baby Fair is hosted by the North Liberty Community Library and sponsored by Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. The Baby Fair showcases local nonprofits and businesses that serve local families– and it supports the library’s Womb Literacy initiative to encourage parents to read to their baby before birth. This is an annual event, so if you missed out this year, follow us or the NLCL for updates.
There was a good mix of first-time parents and parents expecting a second (or third) child after some time. The most asked question from either was, “What is the best carrier?” … and as much as we love having succinct answers for your babywearing questions, this is not an easy answer. There are so many factors to consider, such as:
- Caregiver morphology (body type) and how they move.
- Age and strength of baby.
- Caregiver strength and flexibility.
- Caregiver health concerns (like a bad shoulder or back).
- How baby likes to be held and/or how caregiver likes to hold baby.
- Caregiver’s spatial awareness.
… and that is by no means an exhaustive list. This is why we provide the service we do. Come to our meetings and try on different types and brands of carriers, let us help you troubleshoot issues, and see what you and your LO like the best. AND you can even take a carrier home for the month.
